Town of Clark's Harbour :  Recreation & Dining

During your stay in Clark's Harbour and the surrounding areas, you will find many recreational activities.  These are just a few examples of the many things there are to do in our town.

The F.A. Brannen Memorial Park

The first ball fields in Clark's Harbour were on the local beaches.  This made playing very inconvenient because travel was difficult.  It was agreed on  that a ball field was to be built in Clark's Harbour, so the F. A. Brannen Memorial Park was built.  This ball field was started in 1920, when Mr. Francis A. Brannen sold a piece of his land to the Town of Clark's Harbour for $325.  The land, which is located on Bruce Street, was very wet and swampy, so loads of ashes were brought in from local schools that burned coal for fuel.

The first team to receive an official name was the "Clover Leafs".  Their names changed throughout the years to "The Smokies" and are presently known as the "Foggies".  The F. A. Brannen Memorial park still remains very busy, homing many teams that range from the ages of four and up.  The ball field was in such demand that lights were installed surrounding the ball field so that evening games could be played.  This field still plays a major part in Clark's Harbour's every day life.

Library

The Clark's Harbour Library is a branch of the Western Counties Regional Libraries and is located beside the Visitor Information Center.  It has a friendly staff and public access to the internet.  It also has many books for all types of reading and various other multi-media items as well, a guaranteed 'something for everyone'.

The Board Walk

A board walk surrounds the F. A. Brannen Memorial Ball Park and makes its way along the shore line.  It allows people to take a stroll along the ocean, by the wharves, and through part of the town.

Bird Watching

Bird watching is one of the main tourist attractions for Sou'Western Nova Scotia, as it is for Clark's Harbour and surrounding areas.  There are many wonderful places to experience our wild birds as well as some endangered species, like the Piping Plover (pictured).  Some birds that can be seen are the Atlantic Brant, Piping Plover, Short-Billed Dowicher, Semi-Palmated Sandpiper and Semi-Palmated Plovers.  Every spring and summer our beaches are visited by about 20% of Nova Scotia's nesting Piping Plovers, so walk on the beach and enjoy these endangered species.

Children's Playground

We also have a playground located behind the Library and Town Hall for children to enjoy.
