Cape Island Boat

The Cape Island Boat is characterized as having distinctly high bows, a long broad open workspace, and is low to sea.  Stories tell that it's design was inspired from watching a seagull sitting in the water, it's chest high and back low in the water.  It was first created around 1905 and is used in both the lobstering and fishing industries.

The Cape Islander, as they're commonly known, are constructed in different sizes, mainly from 30' to 50' and are found all over the Atlantic coast of the provinces.

These boats are made to withstand the rough Atlantic oceans and often bad weather and can be out at sea for many days at a time.  A warm cozy bunkhouse below and an eat in kitchen allows the fishers to live comfortably at sea during their fishing trip.
