Approval of the Agenda 4. New Business - William Pace Property – 2345 Main Street Fire Works License – Jeff Doane Fire Department - Backhoe 1924 Regular Session Town Council August 4, 2015 The Regular Session of Town Council was called to order by Mayor Leigh Stoddart at 7:00pm with Councillors Rex Stoddard, Cecil Brannen, Russell Atkinson, and Sherry Atkinson, Trudy Quinlan and Irene Baker present. Additions to the Agenda: There were no additions to the agenda. Approval of the Agenda: It was moved by Councillor Brannen and seconded by Councillor Stoddard that the Agenda be approved as circulated. Motion carried. Approval of Previous Minutes: It was moved by Councillor R. Atkinson and seconded by Councillor S. Atkinson that the Minutes from the previous meeting be approved as circulated. Motion carried. APPOINTMENTS: No Appointments MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES: a) Financial Statements – It was moved by Councillor Quinlan and seconded by Councillor Stoddard that the final audited Financial Statements from Redding CA be accepted as presented. Motion carried. b) CIP150 – It was moved by Councillor Brannen and seconded by Councillor S. Atkinson that the offer of assistance, in the amount of $13 859.00, under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program be accepted by the Town and that the proposed work, which consists of roof shingling, painting and a pump room extension on the legion be sent out to tender. Motion carried. REPORTS Streets, Sewers and Unsightly Premises: The Public Works Report presented to Council was read and discussed. Recreation: No recreation report was presented. Building Inspectors Report: There was no Building Inspectors Report for July available at this time. 1925 Fire: The Fire report for July was presented and discussed. Police: There was no Police Report for May. Mayor/Councillors: Councillor Quinlan reported on a SASI meeting she attended on July 29th 2015. Councillor Baker made a motion to donate $100 to the Bay Side Home Van Fund in memory of former Councillor Barbara Conrad, Councillor Brannen seconded this motion, motion carried. CORRESPONDENCE Fire Inspection Association of Nova Scotia – A request was received from David Andrews, Fire Inspector for the Municipality of Barrington and Town of Clarks Harbour, for a sponsor of $250 for one of the coffee breaks during the Fire Inspection Association of Nova Scotia’s conference October 19-23 2015. It was moved by Councillor Brannen and seconded by Councillor S. Atkinson that this request be granted. Motion carried. NEW BUSINESS Legion Rental/Wedding Dance – It was moved by Councillor Baker and seconded by Councillor Stoddard that Terry Lynn Nickerson be allowed to hold her wedding reception and dance at the legion on June 18, 2016. Motion carried. Fisherman’s Memorial Service – The date set for the Fisherman’s Memorial Service is September 13, 2015 at 2pm. The second Sunday of September has been delegated for the Fisherman’s Memorial Service. It was also suggested that we contact the Shelburne Ministerial Association to inquire if there would be interest for a five year rotation for Ministers to do the service. Wireless Mics - There were two quotes for the purchase of wireless microphones for the Legion, one from Long & McQuade of Halifax for $329.00 each and one from Ocean Blue Music of Yarmouth for $379.00 each. It was moved by Councillor S. Atkinson and seconded by Councillor Quinlan, to purchase four wireless microphones from Ocean Blue in Yarmouth. Motion carried. 1926 Access to Gazebo/Wheelchair Ramp – Mayor Stoddart had been advised by an employee of Roseway Manor, who frequently assists on the wheelchair accessible van that brings residents to the Town for an afternoon out, that the wheelchair ramp located at the back of the gazebo could not be accessed by a wheelchair because the ground is very spongy between the current walkway and the ramp. It was moved by Councillor Baker and seconded by Councillor S. Atkinson that a cement block walkway be constructed from the current walkway around to the wheelchair ramp. Motion carried. Property Tax Sale – At this time Council entered an in camera session to discuss an upcoming property tax sale. Council exited the in camera session. At 8:35pm, Councillor Quinlan motioned that the meeting be adjourned, seconded by Councillor S Atkinson. Motion carried. ____________________________ ______________________________ Town Clerk Mayor |
