Regular Session
Town Council
August 18, 2026
The Regular Session was called to order by Mayor Kenney at 7pm with Councillors Louann Link, Laurie Smith, Max Kenney and Irene Baker present.
ADDITIONS TO THE AGENDA:
No additions
APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA:
Being duly moved and seconded the agenda as well as the additions was approved as circulated.
Motion carried unanimously.
APPROVAL OF THE PREVIOUS MINUTES:
Being duly moved and seconded the minutes from the previous meeting was approved as circulated.
Motion carried unanimously.
APPOINTMENTS: None
MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES:

REPORTS:
Streets, Sewers and Unsightly Premises:
No report available at the time of the meeting.

Recreation:
Nothing to report.
Building Inspector Report:
There was one permit issued in July for the erection of a barn.
Mayor/Councillors:
Mayor and Councillors shared their activities and meetings attended since the last regular meeting of Council.
CORRESPONDENCE:
It had been asked of the Town, by the Barrington and Area Chamber of Commerce to sponsor this year’s Shelburne County Business Awards event.
Being duly moved and seconded, Council agreed to sponsor five hundred dollars ($500). Motion carried unanimously.
Council discussed what was asked of them from the Joint Services Board Exploration Committee but felt that there was nothing to offer at this time. They were asked to discuss about any other services they may be interested in sharing, selling, or buying. The Town and the Municipality of Barrington now has an intermunicipal agreement regarding the fire department, landfill, recreation, and building inspections.
NEW BUSINESS:
The clerk was approached by Sea Star Seafoods Ltd to ask of the Town if they would allow them to remove a section of pavement on Courtney St that would abut their sidewalks and roadway for their equipment and replace with concrete. Concrete generally lasts longer than pavement and they are offering to do this and maintain this at their own expense.

Being duly moved and seconded, Council approved of the request from Sea Star Seafoods Ltd, provided we have something in writing from them stating the conditions of the offer.
Motion carried unanimously.
Due to the deterioration of the ball park washrooms, the condition of the water, and the disrespect for public property, Council decided to replace the washrooms with porta potties for future use.
Being duly moved and seconded, porta potties will be used at the ball park instead of the current facilities.
Motion carried unanimously.
The Clerk received a call from Nova Scotia Lights Recycling program asking if the Town would like to participate in the lightbulb recycling program. Council decided to decline at this time.
Being duly moved and seconded, Council declined the offer of participating in the Nova Scotia Lights Recycling program at this time.
Motion carried unanimously.
